Traditional Thai Massage Therapy
Time-Honoured Techniques
Equally effective as it is exotic, Thai massage fuses long-standing techniques with a powerful combination of pressure-point manipulation and gentle stretching, releasing both physical and mental tension.
Traditional Thai massage uses the power of touch to heal, rejuvenate, and restore. Letting assisted stretching take the lead in a journey toward improved quality of both movement and life, this popular option is often thought of as a form of ‘passive yoga’ – gently manipulating soft tissue with the aim of relieving even the deepest tension.
Whether you’re looking to tackle long-standing knots, combat the postural effects of office work, or simply improve your mobility through massage, this ancient therapy can help ensure the ongoing health of your body and mind.

What is Thai massage?
Traditional Thai massage is an ancient form of complementary therapy. During a Thai massage session, a trained professional will use the power of touch to deliver both physical and mental benefits. In simple terms, they’ll use proven techniques such as assisted stretching, pulling, rocking, and pressure point manipulation, to deliver benefits including an increased range of motion, improved flexibility, pain relief, and a lasting post-appointment sense of relaxation.
Instead of taking place on a massage table, Thai massage is typically performed on a mat in loose-fitting, comfortable clothing – ensuring the space required to perform full-body stretching is available.

How much is a Thai massage?
Across the UK, the price of a traditional Thai massage can vary quite significantly – with factors including location, your chosen provider, and the length of your treatment all playing a role in cost. The average UK price for a Thai massage at present tends to sit between £70 – £105 for a 90-minute appointment.
At Lana’s Holistic Centre, we provide a fully tailored 90-minute traditional Thai massage therapy experience for £80. To view our full list of treatments and accompanying prices, please visit our free online booking form.
What should I wear to a Thai massage?
Unlike a traditional massage, during which you’ll typically be required to undress and lie on a table, Thai massage is performed fully clothed on a mat. This is because of its unique nature – rather than simply remaining still on your front or back, during a Thai massage, your therapist will manipulate your body into a series of assisted stretches, whilst providing pressure therapy and bespoke massage.
As Thai massage involves a significant amount of movement (to the extent that it’s often referred to as ‘passive yoga), the clothing worn should be loose, and comfortable – ensuring that your therapist is able to position your body correctly.
What to expect during a Thai massage?
Thai massage at Lana’s Holistic Centre is an entirely bespoke service, meaning it begins with a consultation – firstly via an online form, and secondly when you first arrive at your appointment. Your therapist’s exact techniques will be aligned with any goals (and barriers to them) during this appointment – for example, if you suffer from bad posture or back pain, much of their work may focus on this.
Your appointment will last for approximately 90 minutes, and be followed by additional advice on how to extend the beneficial effects experienced.

Is Thai massage painful?
Thai massage is certainly a different experience from its typical Western equivalents. Rather than lying on a table for the duration of your treatment, you’ll be moved into a variety of highly effective stretches – which, for new clients, can come as a ‘shock to the system’. With this being said, your traditional Thai massage shouldn’t be excessively painful. If the experience becomes too intense, you’re more than welcome to request a more gentle approach from your therapist.
Post-appointment, you may experience some lingering tenderness or redness, however, throughout the course of the day/night, this should give way to an enduring feeling of relaxation, both physically and mentally
