Remedial Cupping Therapy

Balance and Heal

Unlock the power of cupping – an ancient Chinese and Middle Eastern therapy designed to promote healing, fast. Precisely targeting your specific areas of concern, this technique uses gentle suction to stimulate blood flow and rejuvenation.

Using a unique combination of heated glass cups and traditional deep tissue massage, cupping therapy reaches even the most stubborn aches, pains, and issues. A longstanding favourite treatment amongst the world’s leading athletes and celebrities, this result-driven therapy releases toxins and blockages from the veins, arteries, capillaries, and lymphatic system – promoting relief, repair, and balance.

What is Cupping Therapy?

An ancient form of traditional Chinese medicine, cupping uses heated glass cups to create a small area of pressure, or ‘vacuum’ upon the skin – most often on the back. This suction gently pulls up the soft tissue layers, increasing and directing blood flow whilst flushing out toxins and blockages.

Depending on your exact circumstances, your cupping treatment may be able to affect tissues up to 4 inches deep – tackling adhesions and issues affecting anything from the blood vessels to scar tissue.

Clients’ Stories

Since opening our Ipswich & Bury St Edmunds massage therapy studios, we’ve helped hundreds of happy clients relax, rejuvenate, and renew with the power of bespoke healing treatments

I had a brilliant deep tissue massage at Lana's Holistic Centre. The therapist was warm and welcoming. I suffer with tight muscles in my back, and shoulder area. I've tried a few places recently, however, the treatment at Lana's was the best and worked a treat. The centre is easy to find and there is free parking up to an hour nearby by. I'd definitely recommend Lana's.

Had been suffering from some back pain and on enquiry I managed to get a same day appointment. Location was easy to get to, bright and clean. The service was fantastic, and everything was explained. I came away feeling much better and results have lasted. Will definitely go back and would recommend.

I booked in to get my back seen to as I'd been suffering quite badly. I can honestly say that after an hour's treatment I have never had such good results before! I left feeling very relaxed with lots more movement and significantly less pain than I had when I arrived. Chris was very courteous and knowledgeable, explaining the different muscle groups and their function. The treatment rooms were hygienic and welcoming, will definitely be coming back!

Lana's deep tissue work is exceptional. As an older man with chronic tightness in shoulders, back and neck it means a lot to have skillful, deep pressure which gets to the roots of the pain and tension. I also gained more understanding of the causes and how to self-help.

FAQs

What is cupping?

Cupping is a complementary therapy rooted in traditional Chinese medicine. Depending on the preferences of your chosen provider, warmed glass, silicone, or bamboo cups will be used throughout your session to create small vacuums on a targeted area of skin (most often the back) – drawing up the soft tissue with the intent of improving blood flow and flushing away toxins built up through exercise or lifestyle. The benefits of cupping make it a popular choice amongst high-level athletes, however, in recent years, it has become a sought-after service amongst the general public – including those suffering the effects of sitting for long periods of time.

This treatment, though remedial and goal-driven, is typically relaxing – but may leave some bruising, which will fade with time.

How much does cupping cost?

The price of a cupping booking in the UK can vary quite significantly in line with factors such as your chosen provider, location, and session length! Current average prices sit at approximately £75 for an hour long appointment with a specialist.

At Lana’s Holistic Centre, we provide a bespoke 60-minute cupping session for £60. To view our full list of treatments and accompanying prices, please visit our online booking form.

How long do cupping marks last?

The vacuum cupping creates on the skin tends to result in some broken blood vessels and bruising or ‘cupping marks’ – often seen on the backs of celebrities and athletes alike. This discolouration is by no means a bad thing if the treatment itself has been performed correctly. In fact, the body treats the bruised and discoloured area as an injury, promoting improved circulation and faster healing.

The length of time your cupping marks will be visible for depends on a number of factors, including your lifestyle, health, and the way in which your treatment was performed. Whilst some people will find that they fade within just a few hours, those more sensitive to the effects of this therapy may see discolouration remain for approximately two weeks. Staying hydrated and well-rested can assist in speeding up the healing process.

How much cupping is too much?

Our experts recommend approaching any complementary therapy on an entirely individual basis – meaning there’s no one ‘best’ frequency for cupping treatments. Most clients book in for a cupping appointment no more than once a week – giving their body time to feel the full benefits of and recover from their previous session. Whilst those attending appointments on a weekly basis are often looking to remediate the effects of a regular physical factor, such as athletic training, we also see individuals simply looking to refresh their body attending monthly or more infrequently.

If you’re unsure as to how often you should be undergoing cupping therapy, why not message or call the Lana’s Holistic Centre team for a free consultation? We’ll work with you to establish the best possible routine for your body and lifestyle.

How does cupping help athletes?

In recent years, cupping has become a particularly popular treatment amongst athletes across a huge range of sports and disciplines. Used both as a pre-training/competing ritual, and a recovery method, cupping is most often sought by athletes looking to address specific areas affected by long-term training, inflammation, or general sports injuries.

Amongst providing a whole host of other benefits, cupping can promote both faster healing and the removal of toxins from the body, making it a brilliant option for those looking to address the effects of strenuous movement including muscular injuries and soreness – especially within a tight schedule of training and competitions.
